Genoa Glory 'Susan'C.f. 'Susan' is a large flowering selection of Callistemon forresterae. As such 'Susan' is a compact shrub 1.5 - 2.5 metres high and 1.2 - 2 metres wide, with lightly weeping stems. Full sun or light shade is fine, and moderate frosts are tolerated. Second line coastal conditions are suitable, as well as inland conditions. Water Worm is good for the garden
Rigid-walled, bulky rainwater tanks have their place, but Water Worm, a new product from Coolaroo, is a flexible and flat water storage system that can be placed alongside or under a house. Water Worm from Gale Pacific Ltd stands alone as a fully-fledged rainwater collection device that customers can take home in the car.
Weighing just 3kgs, Water Worm is equally attractive to those homeowners seeking long-term water storage options to suit villa units, flats and other urban dwellings where space is at a premium.
While most rainwater storage facilities are solid rectangular units, the Water Worm lies flat and can be nestled partially or fully underneath a verandah or floor cavity. Alternatively, it can be left lying flat alongside a dwelling where it is unlikely to block narrow pathways or interfere with views from low windows. Water Worm measures 6.5m in length and has a diameter of 400mm. Its capacity is about 600 litres.
The skin fabric on Water Worm has been woven from seamless circular PP scrim with double-welded ends and has an exterior coating and UV stabilisation to enhance longevity.
The interior coating is fully compliant with AS2070, which is the relevant standard for plastic that is in contact with foods, as well as AS4131 which pertains to potable water safety.
The unit is fed with water from a standard downpipe set-up and, most importantly, a head pressure is developed that exceeds the minimum standards for domestic use.
Water Worm is available off-the-shelf: as a basic DIY kit including poly bend, tap, hose connector, 2" inlet and _" outlet, for around $250 retail. A more elaborate kit includes the abovementioned components plus all fittings required for a standard connection to a downpipe. This larger kit retails for about $350.
According to Gale Pacific's estimations, most homes devote about 45% of all water to garden and outdoor uses, so there are potentially huge savings to be made by reducing the levels of reliance on mains water for external applications.

Flower of the YearFollowing a run of autumn releases including many great new pansies, 2004 brings a double change. This year for the first time in three years the Flower of the Year is a spring release and it is not a pansy but a marigold. It is also accompanied by a snapdragon waiting in the wings just away from the central spotlight.
Flower of the Year Marigold 'Simba' is a great new French-style marigold in a mix of four colours, two of which are new to Australia and exclusive to BPA. The other release is Snapdragon 'Jelly Beans' - a mid-height snap with proven performance and some new colours.
Marigold 'Simba' presents an exclusive mix of vibrant coloured flowers in yellow, red, tangerine and a unique bi-colour of yellow and red shades. It prefers full sun and flowers from September to May, even longer in warmer climates. Plants are compact and grow to around 30cm high. It is an excellent choice for both container culture or in the open garden and is quite spectacular with flowers around 5cm wide.
Snapdragon 'Jelly Beans' is a medium-sized snapdragon with flower spikes growing 35-45cms tall. It will bloom up to two weeks earlier than other snapdragons.
`Jelly Beans' is exclusive to BPA and is available in a mix of six vibrant colours - yellow, red, carmine, white lilac and white and lilac bi-colour. Full sun is preferred with a flowering time from at least August to May.

Two new heucheras from Larkman PlantsHeuchera 'Jade Gloss' has glossy silver foliage (looking like it has been polished) with bronze veining. Pink flower buds open to reveal large, white blooms. This stunning new release will thrive in any reasonably good soil with full to part shade, but best results will be achieved when it receives filtered light and is well mulched.
Heuchera 'Black Beauty' is a fabulous plant with very dark, ruffled, shiny foliage that looks almost iridescent in sunlight. Its beautiful coral, bell-shaped flowers add drama and excitement to the garden. Its growing requirements are similar to those of 'Jade Gloss'.
Like most heucheras, 'Jade Gloss' and 'Black Beauty' make excellent border plants. They also perform well in tubs or as under-plantings beneath medium sized shrubs.
