Entertaining outdoors

Building an outdoor entertainment area makes a lot of sense as it adds additional living space to your home and is a focal point where your guests gather. Properly designed and built, it will have a unique atmosphere of comfort and livability in the outdoors. You and your guests can enjoy the garden, which, small or large, comprises a major part of your home. And particularly in the Summer, who wants to be indoors?

When thinking about creating your outdoor entertainment area, firstly consider all of the elements you desire. The number of appliances available that are suited to outdoor use is amazing. The ‘kitchen’ can include a stove or barbecue, an oven, a sink and cupboards. A table and chairs are essential for dining and just sitting around, but have you thought about lounge chairs and benches? There is a range of quality sound systems that are suited for use outdoors, adding the element of sound and music to your experience. You could incorporate a television, even a home theatre; a backyard cinema makes a fabulous venue in which to enjoy a movie or watch the football under the stars. Do you see yourself using the space during the colder months? Perhaps a fireplace can be incorporated – if you are already using gas for the barbecue, it can be connected to that.

Once you have listed your desired elements, it is time to call a landscape designer; you can find a reputable one by searching the website of your state landscape association. A professional landscape designer will produce a workable plan for the space, taking into account the style of your home, (internal décor palettes) and other areas of the garden, your swimming pool and spa, the available space and your budget.

You need to employ a professional for the construction of your project as structures of this nature require permits, possibly engineering and sometimes even town planning and all with a six and a half year structural warranty. A professional, registered landscape construction company will have the building skills required for the complexity of an outdoor room. If there is something they don’t regularly do themselves, they will have the knowledge and ability to employ and supervise sub-contractors. Your outdoor entertaining area is an extension of your home, your living space. It will add value to your investment and lifestyle; it makes sense to have it constructed to the highest standard. Contact your state’s landscape association for highly skilled and accredited designers and contractors who can make your dream a reality.
